Why Has Cremation Become So Popular?

January 28, 2019 • Teri Vila-Caballero

In the past, if you heard about a funeral, it would have most likely been traditional, complete with a casket and a burial service. Today, however, North Miami, FL cremation is just as popular as traditional funeral options. Most funeral homes do cremation about half the time and traditional burials the other half. What has caused this shift? Why is cremation more popular today than ever before? Here are just a few reasons:

North Miami, FL cremation

The Convenience Of Cremation

While cremation has been around for centuries, it’s become more popular in recent decades largely because of its convenience. Today’s society adores all things convenient and cremation is certainly that. Cremation takes much of the planning out of the picture and allows families to keep things simple. It’s also nice that you can move the remains with ease yourself and do a variety of things with them including scattering them, burying them, or even keeping them. Those conveniences and options make cremation highly valuable to many families.

The Smaller Cost

Cremation doesn’t require as many products and services as traditional funerals do. There doesn’t have to be a casket at all (and if you do want one, you can rent one for services before cremation), there’s no need for embalming, you don’t have to have a headstone or burial plot and so on. All of those products and services add up so going with cremation cuts all that out, making the cost automatically lower. Some families like saving because they don’t have the money to spend while others spend the money on memorial services instead of the products that have to go with funerals.

The Acceptability

More religions accept cremation as valid, respectful, and acceptable today and more individuals and families accept it as well. Because it has become more mainstream, it isn’t looked down upon as something odd at all. The more people who use it, the more accept it. You might feel weird about cremation at first, but once you go to a cremation service and see how honoring it is, you accept it. And that’s what’s happened with society as a whole.

There are some services and products in the funeral industry that come and go in popularity. Funeral homes have trends, just like anything else. Cremation has come on strong in the last few decades, but there’s no end in sight. With its versatility, convenience, respectful nature, and lesser price tag, it’s likely to only grow further in the future.
