Green Options in Burial

August 28, 2017 • Teri Vila-Caballero

When you lose someone you love, you have a lot of decisions to make. If that person was environmentally conscious, you might make decisions based on that. What is the “greenest” way to go? That is what would make them happy. In North Miami, FL, there are many different options when it comes to end of life burials. However, cremation is the greenest option you can utilize. There are a number of reasons why cremation is the way to go if you want a “green” end of life burial for your loved one.

Land

First, when you think of the amount of land it takes to bury a casket, it is rather significant. On the other hand, if you go with cremation, you have options. You can use a much smaller plot of land for the urn or you can choose to keep the urn or distribute the ashes and use no land at all. You won’t be burying any dangerous chemicals, such as those used in embalming.

Resources

When it comes to traditional burials, you have to use a lot of resources, including your monetary resources. Traditional burials cost quite a bit more money because of the processes involved and the items you need to go along with the burial. On the other hand, cremations are much simpler and cost less. For a traditional burial, you will also need a lot more resources to bring things together. You will need embalming for the visitation service. You will need a casket, which uses materials. You will have to use a hearse, which emits carbon dioxide, and so on and so forth. Cremations need none of those things so the resources are much more limited. You will have to go through the cremation process, but the emissions from that are very low compared to the other things combined with a traditional burial.

Gifts

Flowers are always a lovely thought, but then when they are cut, they take away from the land and eventually, they wilt away. Flowers are a traditional gift for a traditional burial service. But if you go with cremation instead, you have the option of suggesting another type of gift. If you aren’t having a service in a funeral home, you may want to set up a memorial fund to a charity. There would be no place for flowers to go so the fund can hold any gifts that come in and go to a good cause that your loved one supports.

Having the right service for the person you lost is very important. If they wanted to think green in their life, cremations in North Miami, FL is the green way to go for end of life disposition.
