Funeral Home or Crematorium?

May 7, 2018 • Teri Vila-Caballero

If your loved one passes on and you know they would have wanted to be cremated (or the family wants it that way), there are still options to consider. If they didn’t leave any directions as to whether or not they wanted a funeral home or crematorium for their final disposition, you have to make that decision for them. The differences between the two are straightforward and can help you understand which direction is best for your loved one.

Crematorium Services

When you choose to go with a crematorium, you are getting services that are more basic than they would be at a Miami Beach, FL funeral home and there’s nothing wrong with that. The crematorium will store your loved one’s remains, provide a cremation container, and do the actual cremation. They can also include a container for you if you don’t wish to purchase an urn on your own. They will then return the remains to you once the cremation is complete. That’s about as far as the services go at a crematorium.

Funeral Home Services

When you work with a funeral home, you have a lot more services from which to choose. You can expect the funeral home to pick up your loved one, transport them to the funeral home, help with obituaries, organize services for memorials (if you wish), gather paperwork like death certificates, and so on. The list is very long and can include as little or as much as you want.

There’s nothing wrong with either of these options, it all depends on what you want for your loved one once they are gone. Crematorium services are much more simple and easy-going, but they don’t preclude you from having a funeral or memorial service on your own if you wish. If you need help with the details to get everything in order, a funeral home might be a better option.

There’s also a third option to consider and that is a funeral home that also has a crematory included. The experts at Ferdinand Funeral Homes & Crematory, for example, are able to give you a long list of services from which you can pick and choose. You can still keep things simple and treat the funeral home like a regular crematorium. Or you can get all of the services you’d like from a funeral home. You get the best of both worlds and you can assure yourself that everything you want for your loved one, you will be able to find.
