Designating Chores For Cremation Services

October 28, 2019 • Teri Vila-Caballero

When you organize cremation services in Coral Gables, FL, there are plenty of things that the funeral home can do for you. Once you make the decisions, they will implement them for you. But there are certain things you might want to take care of yourself, or have your family members do for you. Here are a few chores that you can designate as necessary, depending on what’s going on around you, and how to delegate such chores to others.

House Cleaning

When you have a family funeral, it’s possible that friends and family will be coming in from out of town. Perhaps some close members will be staying in your home or maybe you will at least be hosting some people for meals or chats around the services. Your house could be a disaster after all you’ve been through and you need some help tidying up. Ask a friend who offers help to vacuum, dust, and prepare some bedrooms so your home so you are free to take care of other arrangements.

Arrange The Reception

It’s a tradition to have a reception after a memorial service so family members and friends can spend more time together and mourn together. Many people even like a more light-hearted feel so they can catch up with family they don’t always see. Just because you want a reception doesn’t mean you have to organize it yourself. Ask a more distant relative to take care of those arrangements so you don’t have to worry about that element.

Offer Rides

If you have family members coming in from out of town, they may be flying and not know their way around. Sure, they could rent a vehicle and make their way to a hotel, but if you have friends in town who want to help, see if they would be willing to pick your relatives up at the airport and deliver them to the hotel, a family home, or wherever they will be staying. They could also transport them to and from the cremation service to help even further.

Organize Flower Distribution

There’s often an abundance of plants and flowers at a memorial service and after the service is complete, you may need help taking care of those. The funeral home can help coordinate that as well, but if you put a friend in charge, things will go smoothly. Tell them what plants you want to keep and which ones to donate to a local nursing home, a hospital, or other locations and they can get the details in order for you.
