Creating a Memorable Funeral

January 8, 2018 • Teri Vila-Caballero

There are many decisions families have to make in order to say a final goodbye to a loved one who has passed away. Every funeral service in North Miami, FL should be unique and no two should be identical. When you live in North Miami, FL, there are plenty of funeral home options. When you are ready to make a choice, there are lots of things you can do to make the funeral memorable along with the funeral home professionals. Here are a few things to consider.

Utilize Traditions

Think about your family traditions and some of the things you love to do together. The special memories can be incorporated into the funeral service to help you and your loved ones feel closer to the one you lost. Perhaps your loved one enjoyed playing cards or traveled all the time. Use these loves to place special touches on the service to remind everyone of who they were.

Guest Keepsakes

If you want your loved one’s memory to live on, you might consider sending funeral guests home with a special keepsake to remind them of your loved one. You could give them a recipe that your loved one enjoyed or let guests pick a book or piece of jewelry from their collection. You can even have pieces of their clothing made into pouches or pillows that you could hand out.

Don’t Deny Humor

You don’t likely think of a funeral as a humorous event, but don’t shut humor out completely. If your loved one had a great sense of humor, it’s okay to tell funny stories in their hour. It can remind people of who they were and lighten the mood of the otherwise somber event.

Consider Music

If your loved one loved music or was talented a musician themselves, you can have their favorite songs playing to help you feel connected to them during the service.

Create a Memory Table

Collect items and photos that your loved one used and appreciated and put them on display. You might put their hole in one golf ball up, pictures of traveling adventures, or movie boxes, among other things. Whatever reminds you of them is a good idea for the memory table.

Serve Favorite Snacks

If your loved one enjoyed popcorn, give guests a cupful to help everyone honor your loved one in a nostalgic manner. It’ll bring a smile to their faces as they remember what your loved one enjoyed.

There are plenty of other unique ideas to create the perfect funeral for your loved one. Keep in mind that you want to honor their memory, but you also need to start the healing process yourself.
